The Spring 2013 Wellness Program was a huge success. The program tallied 187 participants over all five campuses including more than 50 prizes for its inaugural members.
Physical fitness classes included yoga, walking, spin, strength training, and zumba. There were also informative sessions including Kelly MacFarland (Biggest Loser Season 1) and a nutrition session from GHC's very own Ken Weatherman.
The Health Fair kicked off the program in Cartersville. The success of over 200 drifters in and out of the student center ballroom, proved the interest the students had in the program. The health fair hosted Bartow County businesses promoting good health along with the classes and educational opportunities Georgia Highlands offers it's faculty, staff, and students. The wellness program, partnered with GHC Intramurals and Recreation, plan to provide a local wellness fair to all campuses in the 2013-2014 school year.
The program has the initiative for the GHC community to 'Take Charge' of their overall health and wellness and to partner all departments promoting health and wellness under one umbrella. GHC Departments involved in the success for this year's program included the human resources department, physical education, intramurals, student life, and various clubs across all five campuses.
The 2013 wellness campaign will begin in the fall of 2013. If you or anyone you know has interest in wellness related activities or events please contact Melissa Wood at [email protected].
